Friends and Groups That Support Broneirion
Friends Golden Challenge weekend
What a pleasure to spend time with fellow ‘Friends’ at our “Golden Gathering” weekend!
At our AGM we thanked Ann Ashworth who has chaired the committee through Christmas weekends, including helping at Winter Wonderland with Santa’s Grotto, Easter Fair activities and of course Gathering weekends. A fabulous job over the last five years!
Sunday was our planned Golden Challenge Badge Activity Day – Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section and Leaders came from all over Wales to enjoy the day at Broneirion. The sun shone and laughter and fun filled the house and grounds – from Cae Gwenllian right up to the zip wire.
‘Queen Victoria’ graced us with her presence as she held audiences in the Drawing Room.
Drums beat out across the breeze from the swimming pool lawn.
A five star bug hotel was under construction with Montgomery Wildlife.
Smores were enjoyed as girls explored the high woods.
At the final farewell, all had completed their Golden Challenge Badge to take home.
What fabulous ‘golden’ memories to hold and cherish!
Winter Wonderland and our Christmas Weekend of course!!
Friends of Broneirion
Friends of Broneirion was established in 1968 and its purpose is threefold;
Over the years, Friends have funded the refurbishment of the dining room, library and drawing room and helped buy much-needed items for the house. Over the past three years, Friends have raised £15,000 to support Girlguiding Cymru’s “Vision Project”, from which we purchased outdoor equipment for the girls, which included a zip wire!
We enjoy activities together!
When December 2016 arrived, the ‘Friends’ Christmas Weekend’ started with a flourish when 200 children visited Santa in his grotto. They were able to enjoy the wonder and magical experience of seeing marvelous mechanical characters in the elves’ workshop, on an evening when Broneirion was transformed into a “Winter Wonderland”. A towering Wellingtonia was bedecked with streams of light to become the tallest living lit Christmas tree in the U.K. The start of an amazing weekend that was full of Christmas warmth and friendship.
Later in the year, the Wales’ theme of “2017 – The Year of Legends” became a focus, when we welcomed Tori James as a guest speaker to our “Friends’ Gathering” in July. She enthralled and inspired us with her ‘legendary’ story of an expedition to the magnetic North Pole. This was followed by her account of the arduous and dangerous ascent of Mount Everest, when Tori became the first Welsh woman to reach the summit in 2007.
What an amazing person, who still talks about a Brownie Pack Holiday as her first adventure!
